Grape: Blaufrankisch
Region, Horitschon, Austria
The estate was founded by Franz Ludwig Weninger in 1983 and is situated at Horitschon in the Burgenland region of Eastern Austria.
Today the business is run by Franz Ludwig's son, Franz Reinhard who took over in 2011.
The soil is rich in clay and iron, ideally suited to the production of lively and concentrated reds. The grapes are hand-harvested and aged for 7 months in a combination of concrete tanks and wooden barrels.
They are certified organic and have been farming that way since 2006.
Expect some dark cherries and black fruits, with a spicy rich texture in the mouth and complex earthy flavours with a mineral backbone.
Check out their blog as well, they write some interesting thoughts on wine .
