Variety: Grenache Gris
Region: Western Cape
This is the first vintage of Grenache Gris produced by Angelo Van Dyk at Yo el Rey and only 875 bottles were made in total.
The fruit was picked from a block on the Voor-Paardeberg.
Everything was destemmed and then fermented on the skins for 5 days.
The wine was pressed using a basket press, settled for a day or two and then racked off the lees to old French oak.
It aged for 6 months in barrel, and was bottled without fining but did undergo a coarse filtration.
Grenache Gris is usually made as a white wine but the skins of the grapes have a slight pink to them and using skin fermentation Angelo managed to blow us away with the colour on this. The pinkest of pink.
Grab it while it's hot, drink it chilled.
