This is the first vintage of Grenache Gris produced by Angelo Van Dyk at Yo el Rey and only 875 bottles were made in total.
The fruit was picked from a block on the Voor-Paardeberg. Everything was destemmed and then fermented on the skins for 5 days. The wine was pressed using a basket press, settled for a day or two and then racked off the lees to old French oak. It aged for 6 months in barrel, and was bottled without fining but did undergo a coarse filtration.
Grenache Gris is usually made as a white wine but the skins of the grapes have a slight pink to them and using skin fermentation Angelo managed to blow us away with the colour on this. The pinkest of pink.
